If he's got the HS-7 and EPA 3520-1 along with the rest of the import documents, then that's about the going rate, but the car just being over 25 doesn't make it legal.

That's probably what I would pay for one in good condition. Japan Partner has a similar model listed at $14.2k and it would probably be worth another $5k to have one already imported and supposedly legal. Japanese Classics is selling nice R32s for low $20k range so I'd say this isn't too bad.

Ha, you're right. It has to meet emission standards and what not. So $21k is the going rate for these? I guess that makes sense.

No emissions testing/standards for vehicles over 25 years old or federalization. It DOES need to show it was imported into the US after turning 25 years old, otherwise it's not legal. You can't grandfather-in a vehicle under the import laws.

Huh, I thought they had do to something to the car after being imported? Maybe I'm thinking of something else...

If it's imported before being 25 years old (and not for show and display) it needs to be federalized, meaning it would need to be crash tested and emissions tested, as well as having all the safety and DOT-regulated parts replaced with correct US versions. If it's a model that is sold in the US already but is of different origin (like importing a German M5 or something) you would need to prove it's similar to a US-market model and then federalize it (airbags, sidemarker lights, etc.). If it's over 25 years old the Feds don't give a shit.

R33s between I think April(?) of 96 and June(?) of 98 are federally legalized because of the work Motorex did. So it should technically have all the paperwork and be good to go.

BUT the R33 GTR was probably the worst of the bunch and you should just import an R32 or wait for an R34. Or get something else that is legal.

Also realized this is an R32 seconds after I wrote that. Carry on.

I've seen them between 18 and 25 for the most part.
